Description
Well. the school year will officially be over on Monday, and I will be on a plane going back home on Tuesday —and hopefully have something to post on Wednesday when I land.
This was a fun project to work on, though i kind of tried rushing through because I am sort of running short on time...... I still have to do some finishing touches on my final animation for TA and submit it to the web-share and also put all of my animations for the class on a CD....... Anyway... When if first heard that we were going to make a character and an environment for it I immediately thought about Kat and the fact that at one point in her life she will come across this tree which is related to her and the Lunar Foxes. So this project has a very special meaning to me
We used sculpey to build the character. I used it for the tree and moss too, but for the glowing part of the tree I used translucent sculpey. At first I was very scared that the translucent sculpey might crack when I bake it because it was very hard to sculpt with and it would easily crumble — if I wasn't careful — after I would sculpt it in the tree form. But it didn't crack and it didn't fall apart when baking But taking out the tin foil and armature from inside it was a pain -_-.... I had to be careful not to pull too hard because I was afraid the tree would crack or break into pieces Q-Q But it was ok in the end as you can tell from the pictures The most fun part however was the moment of truth to see if the translucent clay worked or not because after backing it it didn't look any different than when I put it in. And then.... "God said: Let there be light!" and the tree magically lit up the room Oh joy I was so happy that it worked. Maybe it also had something to do with the strength of the led lights inside — 'cause truth be told they are pretty strong for such little specks of light on a thin piece of wire cable
The tree was the first thing I took care of hen building the environment. Next I started working on the rock pillars around it. Initially there had to be 4 of them an have a representative for each zodiac element, but whatever... didn't have enough space for them to make them I used a lathe it was so scary and awesome and difficult and easy once I got the hang of it The teachers even complimented me of my work seeing as I used that monster of a machine for the first time ever Not to mention that when they first gave us a tour of all the monster machinery we could use at the studio I immediately knew I was going to use the lathe It took me close to 3 hours mage 2 and a half to make those 3 pillars. The ends that I cut off ended up as additional decorations with the use of some tiles one of my class mates let me use — se wasn't using the smaller tile pieces that we smashed together so I asked her if I can take them and she said I can; but I had no idea what I was going to use them for — But in the end they where perfect for the smaller decorations And another of my classmates let me borrow some of her plastic crystals to just randomly place on the ground because it looks nice
Oh! And to carve the trees on the walls and the zodiac signs — which you maybe can't see in the pictures -_-' — I used an air pressure pen that could carve into the wood how cool is that?!
I had loads of fun and I wish I wasn't in such a rush to paint it...
Hope you guys like it
And make sure to expect more drawings from me once I get back home on Wednesday
Now I have to go eat lunch 'cause I'm supper hungry
